OBJECTIVE
As a government agency, the Pahang State Development
Corporation (PSDC) plays a significant role in realising the government’s
policies with the objective of upgrading the standard of living of the
people in Pahang. This role is in line with the National Development
Policy and the objective of creating a Bumiputera Commercial and Industrial
Community. |
| The activities of the PSDC in property development
through the development of new townships, growth centres, housing estates
and the construction of commercial and office complexes are planned towards
the achievement of the nation’s development policies. Besides economic
development project, PSDC also undertakes the responsibility of providing
social development project particularly for the low income groups. |

NEW
TOWNSHIP AND RURAL GROWTH CENTRE DEVELOPMENT

Pahang State Development Corporation (PSDC) as the
main agent of development of the state was given task to develop new townships
and rural growth centres in Pahang. The main objective of PSDC was
to develop and complement the areas with basic infrastructures. Besides
that, various economic and business activities had been successfully activated
in the areas. |
| These factors had played major role in the development
of new township and growth centres that had been able to provide opportunities
for Bumiputeras to own convenient business premises that were comparable
to other areas.
The main objective of these rural growth centres and
new townships is to upgrade the people’s standard of living through at
two-pronged approach, socio-economic and commercial. Through the
socio-economic approach, PSDC is actively involved in the setting-up
of new townships and growth centres
Development of commercial establishment like shophouses,
office and commercial complexes is in line with the Government’s effort
to provide premises for business activities especially in towns and new
growth centres. This is also vital in helping to realised the Government’s
effort to encourage more Bumiputera entrepreneurs to be involved in business
activities in towns and new growth centres.
Under the new townships and rural growth centres project,
the people of Pahang have benefited greatly from the successful establishment
of 35 such growth centres throughout the state. Up till 2000, PSDC
had successfully developed several new townships and growth centres in
various districts in Pahang such as Kuantan, Temerloh, Pekan, Bentong,
Raub, Lipis, Jerantut, Rompin and Bera. |

In fulfilling the objective of providing affordable
and suitable commercial lots to Bumiputeras, PSDC continued to give emphasis
in the shoplot construction projects. To date, PSDC had built more
than 1000 units of shoplots. The type of shops constructed by PSDC
were shoplots, shop houses, village shops, bazaars, stalls and office buildings. |
HOUSING
AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT

Being the state’s main development agency, PSDC has
carried out activities covering various economic sectors within the state,
which were implemented either directly or through its subsidiaries and
joint-ventures. Major emphasis was given to the overall growth of
the state and to upgrade the socio-economic standard of the people in the
state. To achieve this target, some of the programmes implemented
include the creating of new |
businesses and employment opportunities for the locals.
To raise the living standards of the poor, the development of housing projects
especially low and medium cost housing schemes were given priority ever
since the establishment of PSDC.
PSDC’s social development programme continued with
its housing and urbanisation programmes. This activity of PSDC complements
the state government’s effort and private sector contributions to cater
to the housing need of the people of Pahang particularly the low and medium
income groups.
With the aim to improve the quality of life of the
people of Pahang, the PSDC takes a holistic approach in its housing and
urbanisation programme. The programme encompasses the building of
housing facilities, the provision of commercial space, basic civic and
social amenities and facilities from recreaction and leisure

To date, PSDC constructed more than 10,000 units of
houses of different types. The types of houses built by PSDC were
government low-cost houses, PSDC low-cost houses, terrace houses, semi-detached
houses, bungalows, individual houses and flats. Besides that, PSDC
has built more than 1,000 units of shoplots and commercial cum office lots
in various districts in Pahang. |
